{8} Touch Objects

When a porcelain object is thrown on the wheel, it retains a memory of the hand. As the hand itself is a touchable thing, it would only seem obvious that touching would be integral to experiencing art. It is also that intimate engagement of touching a thing, that we experience being touched. Incorporating thrown porcelain forms with ready-made objects contrasts aesthetics of the hand-made and industrial to create a distinctively seductive combination. This duality of hard/soft, heavy/light, and synthetic/natural is only fully understood through touch.

Connectors

Considering the function of an electrical cord to circulate power and information, Connectors are curious tools that propose the function of an input/output devise, or receptor. Going inside the body, they relate to both the spinal and umbilical cords as fundamental links, from brain to nerve endings, and lifeline from mother to child. Whether found inside the body, used as tools on the outside looking in, or computer fire wires and other electronic hardware, all of these cords are transmitters of meaning and links of connectivity.
