{6} Somatic Spill
Somatic Spill depicts the remains of a curious collision of interlocking bulbous forms that wade in deep red puddles. Incorporating porcelain clay, glass, and rubber, Somatic Spill suggests a process that might be found in organic systems or natural world. Like a corporeal spill discovered in a public space, this work suggests circumstantial evidence of an unknown occurrence. Somatic Spill challenges perceptions of beauty and personal boundaries of public display and private spectacle. This interplay between seduction and aversion is like a repulsive beauty that is hard to look at, and at the same time, hard to look away. Employing erotic faculties, these works demand a sensory encounter that engages the viewer on a visceral level.
